According to the Department of Education, Title I is the federal program that provides funding to local school districts to improve the academic achievement of disadvantaged students. It is part of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act first passed in 1965. Great Falls Public Schools is committed to increasing achievement for all students, including those in Title I schools. To this end, we employ Title I Elementary Literacy/Math Intervention Teachers (in addition to the District Elementary Literacy/Math Teachers), Secondary Literacy Teachers, Family Engagement Advocates, and people working as homeless coordinators, student services specialists, and tutors. These staff people work to help schools close the gap in student achievement in Title I schools.
